영어 에세이의 틀을 익히는 것은 물론 짧은 시간에 되지 않는다. 그러므로 반드시 전문 선생님의 첨삭이 필요하고 어드바이스가 필요하다. 그러나 에세이의 틀을 배우고 에세이의 문법적 오류를 체크 받는 것보다 더 중요한 것이 있다. 여러분의 에세이를 채점해보면 여러분은 내용에는 전혀 신경을 쓰지 않는다는 특이한 점을 발견할 수 있다. 에세이의 Thesis Statement를 정했으면 거기에 맞는 포인트가 있을 것이다.
예를 들어 Cloning이 인간의 삶에 끼친 영향에 대해 에세이를 쓴다고 가정하고 두 개의 포인트는 식량난 해결과 생명 연장이라고 하자.Body Sentence에서 먼저 Cloning이 식량난을 해결할 것이라고 쓰고 나서 여러분이 해야 할 일은 식량난이 어떻게 해결되는지를 담백하게 써 내려가야 한다. 그 다음 예를 들어주고 다시 한 번 Cloning이 식량난을 해결하므로 인류에 도움이 된다고 써주는 것이다. 즉 내용의 초점이 식량난 해결이지 식량이 부족한 아프리카의 경제사정을 설명하는 것이 아니다. 자, 그러면 여러분에게 숙제를 하나 부탁해보자.위에서 언급한 주제와 포인트로 에세이를 하나 써보는 것이다.

우선 본론이 너무 짧고 본인의 포인트를 이야기해야 하는데 반대의견을 비판하고 있다. 나의 포인트를 정했으면 그 포인트에 대해서만 집중하는 것이 요점이다. 반드시 기억하기 바란다.

당신은 매우 총명하다고는 하나 그러한 행동을 하는 사람들을 '친구'라고 여기는 것이 편한 느낌이 들겠는가？대부분 아닐 것이다. 둘째로，유머감각이라는 것 역시 제한성이 있다. 유머는 한 사람을 좋은 친구로 만들 수는 있다. 유머 역시 부도덕하고 해로울 수 있으며，쉽게 유머로 이뤄진 친구관계처럼 우정을 쉽게 파괴할 수 있다. 누군가가 잔인한 농담을 말할 때 우정은 끝난다는 것을 우리는 잘 알고 있다. 그러므로 유머감각이라는 것이 항상 바람직한 특징은 아니다. 마지막으로，친구가 필요할 때 매우 총명한 사람 혹은 유머러스한 친구는 주위에 없을 수도 있다.
