'명사+of+명사' 문장은 앞의 명사에 일치
♣부분표현(of+명사)은 명사에 수를 일치시켜라
일반적으로 '명사①+of+명사②'로 이루어진 문장의 동사는 명사①에 일치시키는 것이 원칙이다.
예를 들어 'Many students of the musician are not interested in music'과 같은 문장에서 문장의 주어는 students가 되므로 당연히 동사는 복수동사인 are가 와야 한다.
그러나 부분을 나타내는 명사나 분수 표현이 주어인 경우는,뒤따르는 'of+명사'의 명사②에 수를 일치시켜야 한다.
아래의 경우가 대표적인 예이니 꼭 기억해 두도록 하자.
1. Some of the pages have been written by students themselves.
When comets pass near the sun， some of the ice turns to gas.
2. The first five episodes of The Club had been filmed in color though the rest of the show was filmed and broadcast in black and white.
(The Club의 첫 5회 에피소드는 컬러로 촬영되었지만 그 프로그램의 나머지 부분은 흑백으로 촬영되어 방송되었다.)
The rest of the students are in better shape.
3. The majority of stores do not accept returns on opened software packages.
(대부분의 상점들은 소프트웨어 포장이 개봉되면 반품을 받지 않는다.)
The majority of Nevada has nothing to do with gambling.
4. Two－thirds of the land has been set aside to remain undeveloped green space. Two－thirds of the citizens are happy with the new traffic policy.
